Traditional Household Durga Pujo is called Bonedi Barir Durga Puja
“Bonediana” The traditional Durga Pujo
Durga puja took birth in the palaces of erstwhile kings , Maharajahs and the affluent . Credit goes to them for elevating this religious festival into the status of social extravaganza .
However today, most of these Durga Pujas have disappeared completely, or on the brink of extinction. With the termination of royal estates coupled with lack of funds and enthusiasm , these pujas face an uncertain future .
This group would embark on a journey into the past . Into the times of maharajahs , zamindaars and baniyas , through the darkened corridors , silent ‘naach-ghar’s and shut down thakurdalans … to catch a fleeting glimpse of what it once used to be !!
It would also explore the ancient traditions associated with DurgaUtsav (Durgotav) like Jatras (Plays), agamani bijaya songs (Mahalaya), nouka baaich (rowing competition) etc . With an humble attempt to re-etch memories of these lost traditions in the minds of modern generations .
